About the Program
Music (AM and PM)
Music students, both vocal and instrumental, receive a pre-college study in music theory, sight singing, sight-reading, and ear training. Students in both AM and PM classes also gain experience in composition, music history, performance, music/art appreciation, and overall musicianship in preparation for conservatory or college entrance requirements. Through contact with local arts organizations, students work with professional mentors, colleagues, and performers. Students are given numerous performance opportunities and participate in collaborative events with other arts classes. (Applicants must have fundamental abilities in music theory and music literacy to be accepted into the afternoon program.)
Audition Requirements in Music:
- Performance of two contrasting pieces of music literature in the student’s major performance area (vocalists must provide their own accompanists or sing a cappella)
- Sight singing, ear training, and basic theory evaluation
- Brief interview
- A copy of the student’s most recent report card attached to the completed application
