My name is Ms. Johnson, and I am really looking forward to working with all of you! I have a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA), and my Masters of Arts in Teaching degree also from MICA. I am primarily figurative painter, but I also love to work with antique materials to create sculptures. I am excited by the opportunity this upcoming school year to engage with you in a way that challenges, enhances, and inspires your creative mindset. In class, I hope that we can uncover the role of artmaking in our world, art as a form of communication and expression, and learn more about the elements of art. I will be introducing some new messy processes so that you can explore everything from printmaking to dyeing fibers. In the art classroom, you are all researchers working through inquiry to develop your critical thinking skills and problem-solve collaborative and creative solutions. Additionally, you will learn to develop open-mindedness, test new perspectives, and honor divergent ways of being in an inclusive and interconnected community of makers. Finally, art can transfer to diverse content areas so that, in the world outside the classroom, you can be empowered to advance as an independent, self-directed, lifelong learner. Looking forward to working with and learning from all of you. Feel free to check out some artwork created by students from the CASA Visual Art Department last year in link below.
