This is Ms. Young's first year teaching at CASA. She is originally from Shippensburg, Pennsylvania. Her family includes her husband, Jim; and sons, Josh and Nate. In her free time, Ms. Young enjoys working out at the gym, walking, hanging out with friends, singing, visiting her sons, watching movies, and shopping.
What brought you to CASA?
I LOVE theatre and love teaching math and tutoring students of all ages. CASA has an outstanding reputation and I was excited for the opportunity work with students who love the arts even more than I do!
Where did you work and what was your role prior to coming to CASA?
I have taught and tutored middle school and high school math for years, but for the past 15 years I have also been an adjunct math professor at Harrisburg Area Community College.
What is your favorite part of working at CASA?
I'm excited to work with students, colleagues, and administrators who value the arts and appreciating differences.
What is your connection to the arts? How are you an artist?
I love to sing and I love theatre.
What do you feel is your impact on our school community, students, and culture?
One of my core values is that all students can learn and that students respond positively to being encouraged and treated with dignity. I'm an ally who believes that students grow as individuals when they respect differences and learn from one another.
What advice do you have for our students?
Take a chance! You will never know what you are capable of until you try. Learning is a process. We learn from our revisions. Never be afraid to make a mistake and celebrate small victories.
Fun facts about Mrs. Young:
My son Josh is a Research and Development Engineer and my son Nate a senior at Penn State who plans to become a Physician Assistant. I once danced in a halftime show on Heinz Field for a Pitt football game. I absolutely love getting to know people and hearing their stories. I LOVE seeing the funny side of situations. My favorite Broadway show is Wicked, which I've seen 3 times!
