Bachelor's in Elementary Education, New York University
Mrs. Palmer has been teaching at CASA for 2 years. She lives in Harrisburg with her partner and children (two bio and two bonus) and several plants who appreciate her tough love approach to watering. In Mrs. Palmer's free time, you’ll find her enjoying yoga, binge-watching Netflix and HBOMax, crocheting hats, belting along to Bonnie Raitt and Lizzo, and slaying lanternflies.
Where did you work and what was your role prior to coming to CASA?
This year is formally my 20th year in education and my second year as a full-time teacher at CASA, but I’ve been a short- and long-term substitute here since 2014. Before that, I taught upper elementary for five years in Western Massachusetts and seven years in the Steelton-Highspire school district. I’ve also served as the Director of Religious Exploration for the Unitarian Church of Harrisburg and as a trainer, coach, and speaker focused on real self care and solutions for overwhelmed moms and caregivers.
What do you feel is your impact on our school community, students, and culture?
Students in my classes grow to think critically, expand viewpoints, challenge limitations, and develop into the leaders of tomorrow. That doesn’t happen without a lot of clear expectations, demonstration, and practice. I invite mistakes, I expect discomfort (from me, too!), and I welcome failure - only from the mess can we make a lasting message.
